Sugar Bomb is an instrumental groove jazz trio formed in 2023 in Asheville, NC. Known for their dynamic range in taste and performance, they are often described as modern, playful, and refreshing. The trio consisting of Jacob Bruner (keyboards), Eli Kahn (bass), and Joe Enright (drums) draw from a wide range of influences spanning classical and jazz to fusion, hip hop, and electronic music. Often categorized as jazz for simplicity’s sake and perhaps highlighting their love for improvisation, Sugar Bomb creates a genre-defying kaleidoscope of musical expression through sensitive, yet high-energy performance and composition.

Jacob Bruner
Jacob Bruner is a multi-instrumentalist, improviser, & sonic explorer originally hailing from Raleigh, NC. Outside of Sugar Bomb, he can be found playing the marching baritone in Black Sea Beat Society, as well as playing keys in the psychedelic bluegrass band Big Fur.
Eli Kahn
Eli Kahn is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, & improviser from South Bend, IN, now living in Asheville, NC. After graduating from Indiana University of South Bend in 2010 with degrees in both classical guitar performance & music theory, he transitioned into jazz/fusion & improvisatory music.
Outside of Sugar Bomb, he performs with his original duo After Ours, as well as with his own solo project.
Joe Enright
Joe Enright is a drummer & producer from Miami, FL, where he studied jazz at the Frost School of Music. He is heavily influenced by early 2000s neo-soul, hip-hop, and sample-based electronic music. He brings an improvisational approach to blending these influences into whatever musical situation he finds himself in.
Outside of Sugar Bomb, he performs with many of the top jazz artists in WNC & releases solo music under the name Jophis.
